KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Machinery & Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Malaysia’s machinery and engineering ecosystem.
The collaboration underscores the importance of strong government–industry partnerships to deliver on the ambitions of the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and advance Malaysia’s domestic investment agenda.
MIDA Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, highlighted that the machinery sector remains fundamental to Malaysia’s manufacturing base.
“We are seeing encouraging signs that SMEs are ready to embrace advanced technologies. What they need now is structured support to compete effectively in high-value global supply chains. Through this partnership, we can build on the sector’s existing strengths while equipping our engineers and technicians with globally demanded capabilities,” he said.
He added that aligning industry expertise with government resources will help Malaysia’s machinery and engineering sector attract a greater share of regional manufacturing investments.
Meanwhile, MEIF President, Mr. Mac Ngan Boon, emphasised that the MoU represents a significant step forward for the industry.
“For decades, our industry has contributed quietly but significantly to the nation’s growth. Today, we are called to deepen local supply chains, embrace new technologies, and prepare our SMEs to compete on a global stage. With MIDA as a strategic partner, MEIF is confident in positioning Malaysia’s machinery and engineering industries as a pillar of industrial transformation under the NIMP 2030,” he said.
