Insulet Corporation, a global leader in diabetes management technology, has officially opened its new Omnipod 5 manufacturing facility in Johor, marking a major milestone for both the company and Malaysia's burgeoning medical device sector. The state-of-the-art facility, spanning 400,000 square feet, represents a US$200 million (RM1 billion) investment.
The Malaysia plant is twice the size of the company’s highly automated manufacturing facility in Acton, Massachusetts, in the United States. The new manufacturing facility would strengthen the company’s global capabilities and supply chain resiliency. The company wants to position and develop the Malaysian operation as a regional hub for the manufacturing of their tubeless insulin pump under the Omnipod brandname.
Founded in the United States in 2000, Insulet has been pioneering tubeless, waterproof insulin delivery for nearly 25 years. The company is a global leader in tubeless insulin pump technology.
